Syngenta Calaris Xtra Herbicide (Mesotrione 2.27% + Atrazine 22.7% SC)

India’s first pre-mix post-emergence herbicide for complete weed control in Maize and Sugarcane.

Calaris Xtra is a revolutionary herbicide designed to tackle the toughest weeds in Indian agriculture. By combining two powerful active ingredients—Mesotrione (Callisto Technology) and Atrazine—it delivers a synergistic "dual punch" to weeds. It effectively controls difficult broadleaf weeds and hardy grasses that other products miss.

Formulated as a Suspension Concentrate (SC), it is safer for your crop and equipment than older oil-based sprays. Whether you are fighting Trianthema (Santhi) or Echinochloa (Barnyard grass), Calaris Xtra ensures your Maize and Sugarcane crops grow competition-free.

Why Choose This Product? Key Benefits

  • ⏱️
Fast-Acting Visual Results: Starts working immediately. You will see weeds turning white (bleaching) within 3-5 days of application.
  • 🛡️
Dual Action Power: Combines two different modes of action to kill weeds that have developed resistance to older chemicals.
  • Long-Lasting Control: Provides residual activity in the soil, preventing new weeds from germinating for several weeks.
  • 🌧️
Excellent Rainfastness: Becomes rainfast within 4 to 6 hours. Rain after this period will not wash away the effectiveness.
  • 🌿
Crop Safety: Scientifically designed to be metabolized (digested) by Maize and Sugarcane plants, ensuring the crop remains healthy while weeds die.

How It Works: Mode of Action

Calaris Xtra uses "Synergy" to defeat weeds. It attacks the weed from two angles simultaneously:

[Image of photosynthesis inhibition process in plants]
  1. Mesotrione (The Blinder): It inhibits the HPPD enzyme. This stops the weed from producing protective pigments (carotenoids). Without this protection, sunlight destroys the weed's chlorophyll, turning the leaves white (bleaching).
  2. Atrazine (The Burner): It blocks Photosystem II (PSII). This stops the weed from creating energy and creates toxic compounds inside the leaf cells that destroy cell membranes.
  3. The Synergistic Effect: Mesotrione removes the weed's shield, and Atrazine delivers the knockout punch. The result is faster and more complete control than using either chemical alone.

Note: You may see temporary "flashing" (whitening) on maize leaves, but the crop recovers quickly without yield loss.

Target Crops & Pests

Crop Target Pest(s)
Maize (Corn) Trianthema portulacastrum (Horse Purslane), Echinochloa spp. (Barnyard Grass), Digitaria sanguinalis
Sugarcane Amaranthus viridis, Trianthema spp., Dactyloctenium aegyptium
General Spectrum Broadleaf weeds and tough Grasses. (Suppresses Cyperus rotundus/Motha)

Dosage & Application Guide

The Golden Rule: Always follow the "Dose per Acre" for accurate results.

Dosage per Acre, Litre, & Pre-Harvest Interval (PHI)

Crop Dose (ml / Acre) Water (L / Acre) Dose (ml / Litre) PHI (Days)
Maize 1400 ml 200 L 7 ml 42 Days
Sugarcane 1400 ml 200 L 7 ml 190 Days

*PHI = Pre-Harvest Interval: The minimum number of days to wait between the last spray and harvesting.

How to Apply: Best Practices

  • Timing: Apply at the 3-4 leaf stage of weeds. If weeds get too big (tillering stage), control decreases significantly.
  • Mixing: Use clean water. Ensure the soil has sufficient moisture ("Wattar") at the time of application for best root uptake.
  • Coverage: Use Flat Fan or Flood Jet nozzles only. Do NOT use Hollow Cone nozzles. Use at least 200 Litres of water per acre (approx 13-15 tanks) to ensure the medicine reaches the soil and leaves.
  • Safety: Always wear PPE (gloves, mask, goggles). Wash hands thoroughly after use.

Frequently Asked Questions

1. Can I mix Calaris Xtra with insecticides?
NO. Do not mix with Organophosphates (e.g., Chlorpyrifos, Phorate) or Carbamates. Maintain a 7-day gap between applying Calaris Xtra and any OP insecticide to avoid severe crop damage.

2. Does it control Motha (Purple Nutsedge)?
It provides suppression. The sedge leaves will turn white (bleach) and growth will stop for 3-5 weeks, allowing your crop to grow, but it may not kill the underground tubers completely.

3. Why do I see white spots on my Maize leaves?
This is called "Flash Bleaching." It is temporary. Maize metabolizes the herbicide rapidly, and the new growth will be green and healthy. It does not affect yield.

4. What is the right time to spray?
Early Post-Emergence. Spray when weeds are small (2 to 4 leaves). Spraying on large weeds reduces efficacy.

5. Can I follow Maize with any crop?
Wheat and Barley are safe. However, avoid planting sensitive crops like Pulses (Lentil/Chickpea) or Mustard immediately if the soil was dry or the wait period was short.
